AFT Washington President

Rebooting our union through transparency, collectivism, and engagement

I am running for president of AFT Washinton because, even in the face of big struggles, I believe in our workers and our potential to meet the challenges of our times. With vision and commitment, not only can we protect what we have, but we can advance an agenda for better working conditions, pay, and respect.

These are the guiding principles that will direct my presidency:

  • Recognizing that disinterest is a much bigger threat to our union than any kind of external opposition. By systematically setting concrete goals for participation and working on issues that matter most to workers, we can build the power we need to win.

  • Prioritizing widespread material gains, such as higher pay and better job security, for all our workers. Let's not settle for symbolic victories or future promises.

  • Transparency and collective decision-making. Involving rank-and-file members in policy and strategic decisions ensures that we are acting on behalf of the whole union with full consideration of diverse worker needs.

  • Embracing democracy. Making room for respectful dissent and disagreement without sanctions or judgment will help us build solidarity and power. We all have something to contribute.

Please tell your delegates to vote for me as your next president of AFT Washington!
